About ToolOnTap

Hi, I’m Ahmed. I’ve been working as a software developer for more than ten years, and I build ToolOnTap.

Why I made it

I like building small tools that take a boring job off my plate. Most of them started as something I needed myself: shrinking a photo for a form that only accepts 50 KB, turning iPhone photos into JPGs, or getting a passport photo to the right size without a trip to the photo shop. Each one saves a few minutes, and those minutes add up.

Most free tools for these jobs upload your files to a server, cover the page in pop-ups, or ask you to sign up. I wanted the opposite: open the page, drop a file, get the result.

How the tools work

Every tool on ToolOnTap runs entirely in your browser. Your photos and documents are processed on your own device and are never uploaded, so there’s nothing for us to store, read or lose.

The site is free. It’s paid for by ads, which are kept away from the buttons you use, so you don’t click one by accident.

Writing about what I learn

Besides building tools, I enjoy writing. I like taking what I’ve learned about programming and algorithms and boiling it down into short, clear explanations. Some of that writing will appear here over time, next to the tools it relates to.
